She was born July 18, 1953, in Des Moines, to Harvey and Arlene Lewis.Janette worked for the Bondurant-Farrar Community Schools and enjoyed her mornings as a crossing guard. She also enjoyed crocheting, watching her granddaughter play volleyball and transporting her grandchildren to school.Janette is survived by her children, Angie (Bob) Fredericksen, Steven Young and Dennis Young; mother, Arlene Lewis; grandchildren, Chloe Fredericksen and Gabe Fredericksen; siblings, Janice (Max) Cummings, Janine (Al) Lewis, Harvey (Sue) Lewis and Julene (Darrell) Ripperger; as well as a host of other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey; husband, Ronald Young; and special friend, Rick Pearson.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at Bondurant Christian Church, 304 Grant St. S. in Bondurant with burial to follow at Bondurant Cemetery. Vera A. Penick, 95, formerly of Indianola

Penick, 95, of Grinnell, formerly of Indianola, passed away Aug. 3, 2017, at the St. Frances Nursing Home in Grinnell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Indianola. Interment will be at the Norwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assembly of God Church in Indianola or Hope Ministries in Des Moines. The family wishes to thank all who cared for Vera at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell for the last few years. Everyone has been so kind and thoughtful to her needs. Vera was the oldest of 10 children born to the couple. As a child, Vera attended Highland Country School and Norwood school. She graduated valedictorian from Norwood High School in 1939. On Jan. 28, 1940, Vera was united in marriage to Robert L. Penick at her parents’ home in Puckerbrush. The couple was blessed with six children: Robert E., Carole, Loretta, Alice, Margaret and Ronald.Vera was an excellent homemaker and was always the first up in the morning and the last one to bed. She was a wonderful cook. Her homemade bread and pies were family favorites. She was a talented seamstress. She made her own clothes into her 90s and pieced together beautiful quilts for her family. Vera enjoyed keeping a garden and was an avid reader.Vera clerked for a time for the Norwood Store owned by Maurice and Arwilda Skinner. Also the family owned and operated a feed and fertilizer business, along with the family farm. Vera did the bookkeeping for the business and prepared countless meals for their employees.After the tragic loss of her mother and brother in 1951, Vera and her father were great helps to each other as their two families, the Markers and the Penicks, grew very close...
